en Oeser and Robert Van Fleet will be leading survey trips to Bear Hole: a long, horizontal, mazy cave in Grundy county on Saturday, September 9, and the weekend of September 23-24, which will most likely be a camping trip. The cave is mainly canyon passages, is dry, and only horizontal gear is needed. There is about a mile hike to the cave from the parking area, with an elevation loss of almost 600 feet, so the hike is tougher than the cave. We have special permission to this remote region of South Cumberland State Park, so come while you can. Although we have mapped over 4800 feet in the cave so far, we have only gone about 500 feet from the entrance. No survey experience is required, just a willingness to hold the tape, write numbers, or check loops. We will be at the September grotto meeting for final details, but we will likely leave Nashville around 6:30am on Saturday the 9th, and carpooling is recommended. | ||

Becky Dettorre will lead a trip to Buggy Top Cave on September 24. From Becky: "We'll meet to leave at Bell Rd Shoneys off of I-24 at 8 am. Please also put that if anyone needs a light or helmet, to contact me before hand and I'll borrow from folks in the grotto. Every caver must have a helmet and light on this trip." Buggy Top is a very easy cave that from what I understand you just walk through. | ||

There will be a survey trip to Bear Hole on Saturday the 7th of October. This cave was described on last month's topics, and at the meeting, so if anyone needs any information, let me know. Basically it is a 2 hour drive plus a 1.5 hour hike to the cave, which is horizontal and dry. We normally map 600-900 feet in a day. This trip we will push the outer middle section of the cave. | ||

Joe Douglas will lead a weeknight trip to Sinking Ridge Cave in Meet at the Big K Mart parking lot at the Long Hollow Pike/Goodlettsville Exit of Interstate 65 between 6 and 6:15PM. For anyone wanting to meet further north, a second meeting spot near Springfield can be arranged. For more | ||

Don Harter sez: The Blue Springs dig trip is being moved to Sunday October 15 th. If you are interested in attending let me know where you are coming from. Some of us will camp at Blue Springs Saturday night. So we wouldn't have to drive very far. If there are persons coming from Nashville then a time of 9:30 AM at the cave is when we will probably meet. So you would have to leave around 7:00AM. | ||
