location location location
I am new to the Nashville Grotto and the NSS. I hope that I am doing all of this right. My boyfriend was the orginal caver and then he got me into it. I live in Cross Plains TN and he lives in Sprinfield TN. We have came across hundreds of cave locations and are amazed at how close they all are. However we know that there are more around us that we don't know about and we have quite a list in which we have to go see. But we are interested in finding new ones. How do we go about doing that? I also am going to "try" to upload some attachments containing pictures of the recent caves we have been to. The quality is poor and I apoligize. If anyone has any tips on finding cave locations, please let me know. Thanks
Also, I did not list the cave names. The caves pictured include: Robertson Salpeter cave, Honey Run Cave, Blowing cave. All these caves are within walking distance apart. However I don't think all of them are the same system. There are many channels that break off inside and go way up and some that go way down. You can walk through parts of the cave and others you have to crawl. There is a light stream inside one that is less than an inch deep in most parts. In another cave it seemed as though some sort of pumping system was put in. There was a string that followed the cave deep. We did not get all the way through the cave, because I felt slightly uncomfortable. Does anyone know why there would have been a string?? As I said there was some sort of makeshift pump at the mouth of the cave. I don't know enough about caves to understand alot of it. So any advice is great. The last three pictures are from another local cave. However I do not know the name of it. Also, JOE, I recieved your messages but I can't reply to them. So I hope this helped.
OH...also, I have other pictures of caves that I would like to share along with future caves. Can anyone tell me the best way to post them. Should I post them as a blog, or is there another more appropriate place??

Stark Cave
Yes that is what we had called it because the owners are the Starks. But I wasn't sure if that was the name or not. It is near a park. It is a great cave. THANKS
string
Sometimes inexperienced people will leave string thinking it will help keep them from getting lost.
From http://cavingintro.net/basictech.html -
"Too often string can be found littering the front part of a cave, left by misguided folks who have learned all their caving lore from novels - you can't carry enough string to mark your trail through any cave big enough to be lost in!"
Here is a little fun from Rodger Ling at their expense -
Uploading pictures
Janie I think you've got it pretty much working.
The only suggestions I have is that if it is a group of pictures of one cave, make a blog post describing your trip and upload them together.
If it is a single picture, you can create an image.
For both of these if you know the cave name put it in the "tags" field to help categorize the pictures.
There is some documentation for uploading pics and other site usage at http://www.nashvillegrotto.org/wiki/upload-pictures and http://www.nashvillegrotto.org/wiki/grottopedia.
thanks,
Joe

the last 3 photos
Those last 3 photos look like Stark Cave. It's near the city park at Springfield, right? Heather Levy led a survey project there about a year ago.
